United Power Hosts Estate Planning Workshop

On October 18th, 2025, the Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) partnered with United Power and Legal Aid Chicago to host an Estate Planning Workshop for current and future homeowners. The event brought together community members eager to learn how to protect what they’ve worked hard for and ensure that their homes and assets remain in their families for generations to come.

During the workshop, legal experts and organizers walked participants through essential topics such as Asset Management, Probate Avoidance, Wills and Trusts, and Wealth Transfer Instruments. Attendees also learned practical steps for navigating complex legal systems, understanding property ownership, and preventing the loss of family wealth due to unclear or incomplete estate plans.

This workshop was part of SWOP’s ongoing efforts to equip residents with tools that strengthen family stability and build long-term community power. By partnering with trusted organizations like United Power and Legal Aid Chicago, SWOP continues to bridge the gap between legal knowledge and accessibility—helping families take proactive steps toward financial security and generational wealth.

For many attendees, the workshop provided not only valuable information but also peace of mind, knowing they could take meaningful action to protect their legacies.
