SWOP Stands with ICIRR at the People’s Tribunal to Hold Border Patrol Chief Accountable

On November 5th, 2025, the Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) joined the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and dozens of other community organizations downtown for a powerful People’s Tribunal to hold Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino accountable for the terror and violence inflicted upon immigrant communities. From ICE attacks to the teargassing of neighbors, the zip-tying of children, and the separation of families, the tribunal created a platform for truth, justice, and collective healing.

Though Chief Bovino’s lawyers ensured his absence from court, his absence did not silence the people. Community members, leaders, and advocates gathered in strength and solidarity to share testimonies of the pain, fear, and trauma caused by ongoing immigration enforcement abuses. Their words echoed a unified message: our communities will not be shaken, silenced, or divided.

Together, SWOP, ICIRR, and allies continue to stand firm in the fight for dignity, safety, and justice for all immigrant and refugee families across Chicago and beyond.
