The Southwest Organizing Project’s (SWOP) Community Violence Intervention team, Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), continues its commitment to healing and safety by hosting a weekly Domestic Violence Support Group every Tuesday. The group provides a safe, confidential space where survivors can come together, share their stories, and find encouragement from one another. These gatherings are built on trust and resilience—offering tools, resources, and collective support to help participants navigate recovery and move forward with strength.
This week, the support group centered around empowerment through movement. Participants engaged in self-defense techniques, learning practical skills to protect themselves and increase confidence in their daily lives. The group also practiced yoga, offering a grounding way to release stress, build inner balance, and strengthen the connection between mind and body. These activities foster physical well-being but also reaffirm the group’s mission to provide survivors with holistic support that nurtures both safety and healing.
Domestic violence is a real issue that can occur in any household. SWOP encourages those seeking help to reach out to the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline or feel free to contact one of our Domestic Violence leads: Keana Lindo (klindo@swopchicago.org) | Doris Villaverde (dvillaverde@swopchicago.org)
