On December 18th, 2025, the Southwest Organizing Project’s (SWOP) Community Violence Intervention team, Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), brought light, warmth, and joy to Gage Park through their Light in the Night event. Held in partnership with SWOP member institution PODER at PODER HQ, the evening was a powerful reminder of what community care looks like when neighbors come together during the holiday season.
The event welcomed families from across the neighborhood and provided more than 300 gifts to children, ensuring many young people experienced the excitement and comfort of the holidays. Alongside gift distribution, families enjoyed warm food, festive activities, and a welcoming space to connect. Community members also had access to local resources and information, reinforcing CP4P and PODER’s shared commitment to supporting families beyond one night and strengthening long-term stability in the community.
That same day, CP4P extended their efforts by hosting a coat giveaway out of their office, helping community members prepare for the winter months ahead. By addressing immediate needs—warm clothing, food, and holiday joy—and offering ongoing resources, CP4P’s Light in the Night served as more than a celebration. It was a meaningful act of care, safety, and solidarity that reflects the heart of community violence prevention: showing up, building trust, and making sure no one is left in the cold.
