The Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) is proud to announce the completion of its latest home— the rehabilitation of a two-flat building as part of the Reclaiming Southwest Chicago Campaign. This beautifully restored property is now available for purchase, offering an opportunity for a committed community member to invest in the future of this neighborhood.
Chicago Lawn, Gage Park, West Lawn, and West Elsdon were among the hardest-hit areas during the 2007-08 foreclosure crisis. Thousands of foreclosures devastated these communities, leaving behind hundreds of vacant and deteriorating buildings. In response, SWOP, in collaboration with United Power for Action and Justice and Brinshore Development, has been working tirelessly to acquire, renovate, and provide affordable housing options to local families. Through this effort, SWOP aims to strengthen neighborhoods by ensuring that these properties are placed in the hands of residents who care about their community. In addition to offering affordable homeownership opportunities, SWOP provides essential resources such as housing counseling, rental and mortgage assistance, and foreclosure prevention services to support sustainable homeownership.
"This project is about more than just rehabilitating a building; it’s about revitalizing our community," said Dantay Williams, a Diverse Developer Initiative Fellow for the Reclaiming Campaign. "We want to see families who are invested in the neighborhood have the opportunity to stay and thrive here." SWOP is now looking for a buyer who wants to live within the community and contribute to its growth and stability. If you or someone you know is interested in purchasing this newly restored two-flat, please reach out to SWOP for more details on the application process.
Together, we are reclaiming and rebuilding Southwest Chicago—one home at a time
