Happy New Year and Thank You From SWOP

As we step into a new year, the Southwest Organizing Project pauses to reflect with deep gratitude on the strength, courage, and unity of our communities. This past year was not an easy one. Our neighborhoods faced fear and uncertainty as ICE intensified its presence, disrupting families and threatening the sense of safety that everyone deserves. And yet, through it all, our community stood firm. Parents, youth, elders, organizers, and partners showed us what it truly means to stand together — to stand for the whole.

In moments of adversity, SWOP’s mission has never been more important. We exist to ensure that no one is left behind, no matter the challenge before us. Whether it is showing up for families in crisis, advocating for dignity and justice, or creating spaces of care and resistance, our work this past year was fueled by the resilience of the people who call the Southwest Side home. When systems tried to divide or intimidate, our community responded with solidarity, compassion, and unwavering resolve.

As we move into the year ahead, we make this promise: SWOP will not be deterred. We will not bow out, back down, or turn away from the struggles our community faces. No matter the adversity — whether from unjust policies, displacement, or fear — we will continue to organize, to protect one another, and to stand for the whole. Together, we will keep building a future rooted in dignity, justice, and collective power. Thank you for trusting us, walking with us, and reminding us every day why this work matters.
