CP4P Hosts Light in the Night on 63rd and Campbell

On June 28th, 2025, the Southwest Organizing Project’s (SWOP) Community Violence Intervention team, Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), brought joy, connection, and resources to the Chicago Lawn community by hosting a Light in the Night event at 63rd and Campbell. The evening was filled with the sounds of music, laughter, and conversation as neighbors gathered together to enjoy food, entertainment, and each other’s company in a safe and welcoming space.

Families and youth had plenty to enjoy — from a live DJ keeping the energy high to basketball games and a video game truck offering friendly competition. Kids bounced between the inflatable bouncy houses while others lined up for free haircuts provided by local barbers. The event also provided valuable resources for residents, offering opportunities to meet SWOP’s CP4P outreach workers, learn about community programs, and get connected to services designed to support families, youth, and individuals in the area.

The Light in the Night events are an effort to reclaim public spaces and build safer, stronger communities. These events are designed to provide safe, positive gathering spaces for neighbors, especially in areas historically impacted by violence. Beyond food and entertainment, the heart of Light in the Night is about building trust and relationships — connecting families with organizers and violence intervention specialists who are working every day to reduce harm and foster hope in our neighborhoods. Through these gatherings, SWOP and CP4P continue their commitment to creating opportunities for peace, healing, and community solidarity on the Southwest Side of Chicago.
