Youth-Led Community Engagement Event at Catalyst Maria School

Through the leadership of SWOP Youth Organizer Dantay Williams, a group of youth leaders from SWOP who are students at Catalyst Maria School held their first youth-led community engagement event where youth leaders had the chance to use some of the leadership skills they have been learning through Dantay’s work.

Youth leaders used this opportunity to bring together members of the community, learn more about their school, and the efforts that go into organizing. Through their hard work, they put together a free car wash that was available to the community and hosted recreational activities. There were bouncy houses, sack racing, basketball, volleyball, softball, and even a game where they utilized a huge parachute. There was also plenty of food, drinks, and music for all to enjoy.

Overall, the young leaders got a chance to flex their organizing skills through their organization of time, money, and people while also giving the community a fun day to remember.
