CLP Students at Kennedy King College Complete Community Organizing Course

Students of the Chicago Learning Partnership Program (CLP) at Kennedy-King College recently completed the Community Organizing portion of their coursework with Community Organizer, Joel Rodriguez. During this segment, students explored the foundational principles of organizing — from conducting effective One-to-One Relational Meetings to understanding and assessing power dynamics within institutions and communities. They also learned how to identify key issues, analyze problems, and choose an organizing campaign rooted in the interests and needs of the people they aim to serve. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, students strengthened their understanding of how collective power is built and sustained to bring about meaningful social change.

Now, as they transition into the Community Development portion of the program led by James Rudyk, students will take the next step toward turning ideas into action. This section will focus on campaign planning, assessing community needs and resources, and developing strategies to implement sustainable change. Students will learn how to translate organizing principles into tangible development projects — from housing and economic initiatives to community revitalization efforts — equipping them with the tools to create long-term impact in their neighborhoods
